Description: Infant's short gown, made of block-printed cotton calico. The printed pattern is of stylized flowers in shades of pink and brown, with pencil blue (very faded). The short gown has a low, round neckline in front and low, square neckline in back. The short gown opens at the center front. The body is cut with a flare towards the bottom. The sleeves are short ( 2 1/2 inches). Construction details: The short gown is pieced of eight pieces of fabric. In addition to the shoulder and underarm seams, it has an vertical panel seamed to the front edge of the proper fight side and triangular inserts along the edges of the back neckline. The proper left sleeve is formed of two pieces that extend as continuous panels to form two triangular inserts at the hemline; the back panel is only 1/16" wide at its narrowest point, immediately under the arm. Edges are narrow hemmed, and seams are either opened or laid to one side and stitched down. The sewing thread is cream-colored silk.
