Description: Interiors of a building include a large room arranged as a dining room and as a lecture hall, with folding chairs, tables, electric light fixtures, and potted palms. A stage and Windsor chairs are visible in one photograph. Some photographs include men and women seated at tables that are set with dishes, glasses, and candles. One photograph is a group portrait of twenty men posed in front of what appears to be a corporate logo incorporating a rampant lion. The men where suits, neckties, and vests. A clock is on the wall. Sprinkler heads are in the ceiling.
Subject Note: The Caledonian Insurance Company building was constructed in 1936 at 150 Cogswell Street to the designs of Carl J. Malmfeldt. Later known as the Caledonian-American Insurance Company, the business was the Hartford branch of a Scottish firm. (Finlay 12/19/2003) Subject Note: Only 2003.55.65 is clearly identified as relating to the Caledonian Insurance Company. However, all but 2003.55.64 show people in what appears to be the same interior, and probably relate to the Caledonian Insurance Company. 2003.55.64 appears to be a photograph of an employee banquet in a different location.
