Description: A profile portrait of George Washington is surrounded by a linked chain composed of medallions representing the thirteen original states of the United States.
Date Note: The first state of this print was issued by Amos Doolittle in 1791. A later state, with significant alterations, was issued in 1796. In the Old Print Shop Portfolio September/October 2016, a print of the same image, but described as an unknown varient, was on sale for $30,000.
Inscription: On recto, engraved title beneath image, "A DISPLAY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / To the Patrons of Arts and Sciences, in all parts of the World, this Plate / is most respectfully Dedicated, by their most obedient humble Servant, / Amos Doolittle / New Haven March 1st 1794." On verso, lower right, in pencil, "conserved?"; accession number
