Description: A man, three children, and a woman are in a buggy. Two horses are hitched to the wagon. In the background, several buildings are visible.
Dimensions Note: In the same window mat as 2011.344.965 Medium Note: The iridescence visible in the print in raking light suggests that it is a collodion POP. Subject Note: The man is Samuel Thorne. The three children are his grandchildren Landon, Francis and Phebe. The woman is the children's nurse. "The Crest" was the Thorne family's name for their house, Thorncrest, in Millbrook, NY. Designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter for George Hunter Brown, it was built in 1867 and called Millbrook House. The grounds were landscaped by Olmsted & Vaux.
