Description: Two-story wooden building, bearing the inscription "W. & I. Thorne, 1795," over the door. A number of horse- and oxen-drawn carts, people on horseback, and pedestrians, are milling about in front of the building. Trees and farmland are visible in the background.
Subject Note: Jonathan Thorne was the father of Samuel Thorne and Jonathan Thorne, Jr., Harriet Van Schoonhoven Thorne's husband. Harriet Van Schoonhoven Thorne and her husband had home in Black Rock, Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Harriet's photography studio was located.
Inscription: Recto, bottom, printed in black ink: "OLD HOMESTEAD OF SAMUEL THORNE, AND BIRTHPLACE OF JONATHAN THORNE, WASHINGTON, N.Y."
