Description: Portrait of a man with a white beard sitting in a chair and holding two children on his lap. At the left is a young girl, wearing a dress with a large, lacy collar and lace-up boots. At the left is a boy, older than the girl, wearing a jacket with white frilly collar and cuffs, trousers, and boots. Both children are fair-haired.
Subject Note: The grass visible at the bottom of the photograph indicates that it was taken outside. This, and the neutrality of the backdrop and simplicity of the chair and footstool in the image, suggest that the photographer traveled.
Inscription: Verso, center, printed in black ink: "Mrs. J.C. Kendall, / Norfolk, Conn." Bottom, handwritten in pencil: "Joseph Selden Norfolk / grandchildren Joe and Emma Bassett" Bottom, printed in black ink: "DUPLICATES CAN BE HAD BY ADDRESSING AS ABOVE."
