Description: Portrait of two Civil War army officers on horseback. Each man wears a military uniform including epaulets, a double breasted jacket, a hat with a feather, a belt, and gloves. Additional soldiers on horseback are in the background.
Date Note: Print probably dates from shortly after Lyon's death on 10 August 1861.
Inscription: On recto, lithographed title beneath image, "BRIG. GENERALS NATHANIEL LYON AND FRANZ SIGEL. / General Lyon fell at the Battle of Wilson's Creek, Missouri [Aug. 10th] 1861 & Col. Sigel succeeded to the command." Inscribed beneath figures, "SIGEL" "LYON". On verso, inscribed in purple ink, upper left, "769". Inscribed in pencil: upper left, "#1144"; lower left, "Print / Box 6 / #32" "DrAWER 9" "138 [in circle]"; lower right, accession number.
