Description: Three-quarter-length portrait of a man wearing a coat, vest, pants, shirt, and necktie. He is seated in an armchair with a carved wooden back and holds two sheets of paper, apparently a speech or letter, in his right hand. His body is turned slightly to the left. A column is in the left background. Drapery with two tassels is in the right background.
Inscription: On recto, lithographed title beneath image, "ABRAHAM LINCOLN. / Republican candidate for / Sixteenth President of the United States." On verso, in pencil: upper left, "Box 23 / 312"; lower right, "Dwr 56" "CPC consv 1987" accession number.
