Description: Three-quarter-length portrait of a man wearing a coat, vest, pants, shirt, and necktie. He is seated in an armchair with a carved wooden back and holds two sheets of paper, apparently a speech or letter, in his left hand. His body is turned slightly to the right. A column is in the right background. Drapery with two tassels is in the left background.
Inscription: On recto, lithographed title beneath image, "ABRAHAM LINCOLN, / Republican candidate for / Sixteenth President of the United States." Lower right, in pencil, "9 - 12 5/8". On verso, in pencil: upper left, "Print / Box 5 / #11"; lower right, "consv CPC 1987 / Dwr 56" "S. St. J. Morgan" and accession number.
