Description: A boy stands beside a stream, holding two feathers in his right hand and a bow in his left hand. He wears a plaid kilt, a short jacket over a shirt with a lace collar, stockings with garters, and low shoes. A knife with a deer horn handle and a badger pelt trimmed with tassels hang from a broad belt at his waist. A fringed plaid tartan is across his shoulder, and a quiver full of arrows is on his back. A dead heron lies at the right, shot through the breast with an arrow. A thistle in flower is in the left foreground. A tree stump and evergreen trees are in the right background. The brook flows over rocks in the left background. A castle is on a hill in the distance.
Inscription: On recto, lithographed title beneath image, "YOUNG SCOTLAND." On verso, in red ink, upper left, "793". In pencil: lower left, "Print / Box 6/ #56" "100"; lower right, "consv CPC 1987" "Dwr 24" and accession number.
