Description: Drawing of a whaling scene. Several men in a rowboat are being pulled through the water and over a wave by a harpooned whale, of which only the tail is visible. A three masted, square-rigged whaling ship and another row boat are visible in the background.
Use Note: Original drawing number 29 of a series of 53 done for G. Fox & Co.'s 100th Anniversary. The drawings appeared in The Hartford Courant as full size advertisements on Sundays from December 29, 1946 to December 29, 1947. The drawing was later published in a book: G. Fox & Co. A Century in Connecticut. Hartford, 1948, p.29.
Inscription: Hand-written in pencil at lower left corner, "OK to plate / H / 6/13", and " "1373 / H & H". In pencil near lower right corner, "ad no # 29", and "HH #1908". Hand-written in pencil on recto of colored paper cover, "29".
