Description: Rectangular piece of light brown wrapping paper printed in black ink with the name of Brown, Thomson & Company, a dry goods retailer in Hartford.
Historical Note: Brown Thomson & Co. sold dry goods, fabrics and millinery at 398, 400 & 402 (street numbers changed in 1898) Main Street, in Hartford, Connecticut. For many years the department store occupied the lower stories of the Richardsonian Romanesque commercial building designed by Henry Hobson Richardson in 1876 for the Cheney family of Manchester known as the Cheney Block. Inscription: Inscribed by hand in ink at upper left: "57100" the CHS Library catalog number assigned to the object in 1949.
