Description: Drawing depicting men cutting down trees in a forest. In the foreground is a man wearing a tri-corner hat standing by a tree stump. He has one arm up in the air holding an ax and waving to another man in the background cutting down a tall tree. Another man holding a switch drives oxen pulling logs.
Use Note: Original drawing number 47 of a series of 53 done for G. Fox & Co.'s 100th Anniversary. The drawings appeared in The Hartford Courant as full size advertisements on Sundays from December 29, 1946 to December 29, 1947. The drawing was later published in a book: G. Fox & Co. A Century in Connecticut. Hartford, 1948, p.47.
Inscription: Hand-written in pencil at the upper left corner on recto of protective paper cover, "Air Express / Special Delivery - / Hucke", "#47". Notations hand-written in pencil at the bottom of the drawing read, "Per comments / by phone / #47 / 5 5/8' / 2166 /H & H / #2214"
