The top of the box has an ornate design that included the words, "TRADE MARKS/ 1865 WM. ROGERS MF'G CO. [image of an anchor] WM. ROGERS & SON. / ROGERS / THE WM. ROGERS MANUF'G CO. / ROGERS BRAND / HARTFORD, CONN." and "1/2 Doz / MEDIUM / KNIVES / No. 12" and "SOLID / STEEL / HANDLE" and "SILVER / TRIPLE / PLATE." The interior of the box is covered in burgundy colored paper. A paper label is affixed to the interior of the lid; it is printed in yellow, black, red, and white. To the left is the image of a bearded man, identified below as "WM. ROGERS./ FOUNDER OF THE WM. ROGERS MFG. CO. DIED FEB. 17TH 1873." Printing to the right of the image of the man includes details about the silver content of the knives and how they compare to the products of competitors. The center of the label has a black rectangle with a thin red border. Printed inside the rectangle in white letters is, "The WM ROGERS MANUFACTURING/ CO./ Silver Plated/ Table Ware." At either end of the box is a piece of wood covered with a burgundy fabric with cut out slots where the knives would lay.
Inscription: Inscribed in pencil on top of lid, "Fox / lower shelf / #6" [probably an old CHS location note]
