Description: Drawing of a man looking out over a shipping scene at a waterfront. A steamship and a sailing ship are at the dock. Another steamship is in the distance. Several men are carrying crates and boxes. A man and a woman are walking towards the boats carrying bags, with a horse-drawn cart partially visible. A man in the foreground is moving barrels marked, "Molasses". There are hills in the distance on the other side of the water, meant to be the Connecticut River.
Use Note: Original drawing number 3 of a series of 53 done for G. Fox & Co.'s 100th Anniversary. The drawings appeared in The Hartford Courant as full size advertisements on Sundays from December 29, 1946 to December 29, 1947. The drawing was later published in a book: G. Fox & Co. A Century in Connecticut. Hartford, 1948, p.3.
Inscription: Hand-written in ink, " 'I shall build by store on the Connecticut...' / Gerson Fox, 1847".
