Gallery Copy: William T. Marchant designed several houses similar to this one in Hartford and nearby West Hartford during the early part of the twentieth century. The address of this particular house is unknown, but the style and date suggest that it was built either in the West End of Hartford or in the immediate area. Anyone with knowledge of the location of this house is invited to contact the Connecticut Historical Society at [email protected]
Description: Plans for a two and one-half story house in the "farm house" style featuring a gable roof with overhanging eaves, a large attic dormer with tri-part window, covered front and rear porches, as well as second floor rear balcony. Windows on the house are primarily louvered double-hung sash windows in either the eight-over-eight, eight-over-one, six-over-one, or four-over-one configuration. Seven drawings are included in the set: front, rear, south and north elevations, as well as cellar, first floor, and second floor plans. The cellar plans include a coal room, heater, and cold room. First floor plans include a rear porch, kitchen, pantry, dining room, living room, entry hall with stair, and front porch. Second floor plans include four chambers (bedrooms), a bath, hall, and balcony.
Subject Note: Whilst drawings for Job #81 (1999.100.332.1-.7), Job #82 (1999.100.331.1-.2), and Job #83 (1999.100.313.1-.14) suggest individual houses, they share a common style with subtle differences in the roof plans, and near identical floor plans. If built, these house likely reside in the same neighborhood.
Inscription: All drawings have accession numbers handwritten in pencil on verso, lower right. All drawings have architectural dimensions and notes in pencil or yellow ink. Drawings 1999.100.332.1-.7 have individual titles in pencil in lower center on recto (drawing 1999.100.332.1 reads "REAR ELEVATION").
