The co-partnership of Colton & Colburn was formed 20 February 1847, but the firm name appears on a publication as early as 1840. The partners in this Hartford lithographic firm were Frederick P. Colton and Charles H. Colburn. [Courant Feb, 20, 1847] The name Colton & Colburn appears on a piece of sheet music and on a map in the Connecticut Historical Society collection.. The name Colton & Company also appears on prints from 1847-1848; while Charles H. Colburn may be the "& Company" in this name, it seems to imply the involvement of another (or other) different partner(s).
