Samuel Watkinson CollinsAmerican, 1802 - 1871

Samuel Watkinson Collins was born in Collinsville, Connecticut on 8 September 1802. He was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth ( Watkinson) Collins of Middletown, Connecticut. He married Sarah Howard Colt of Hartford, Connecticut on 5 May 1824; they had five children.

Samuel and his younger brother David C. Collins, and their cousin William Wells founded the Collins Company in Collinsville, Connecticut in 1826. It became known for it's superior quality axes, machetes, and other edge tools until it's closing in 1967. Collins died 30 April 1871.
