Orlando Dwight Case was born on 17 August 1826 in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1849, and in 1851 became the principle partner in O.D. Case & Co., a publishing company. He died of a heart attack in his office on Asylum Street on 2 January 1903.
