Alexander Dallas Bache

Alexander Dallas Bache was the son of Richard Bache, the nephew of George M. Dallas, and the great grandson of Benjamin Franklin. He was born 19 July 1806. In 1843, he succeeded Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler as Superintendant of the United States Coast Survey, a position that he held until his death on 17 February 1867.
