Ferdinand Rudolph HasslerAmerican, 1770 - 1843

Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler was born in Switzerland on 7 October 1770. He emigrated to the United States in 1805 and served as acting professor of mathematics at West Point from 1807-1811. In 1816, he became the first superintendant of the United States Coast Survey. He later served as head of the Bureau of Weights and Measures. He died on 20 November 1843.
