Samuel Augustus Mitchell

S. Augustus Mitchell was born in Bristol, Connecticut in 1792. He was the proprietor of one of the most successful map printing and publishing businesses in the mid-nineteenth century. He printed and published maps, atlases, textbooks, and guides for travelers. He published maps on his own and also worked with other map publishers. About 1860 he retired from active business and was succeeded by his son, S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr., who continued producing maps into the 1880s.
