Thomas Barber Sr.American, 1614 - 1662

Thomas Barber Sr. was from Bedford, County Bedford, in the English midlands. He was recruited to help build a settlement in New England, in northern central Connecticut. He arrived in Windsor in the spring of 1635, where overlapping settlements resulted in his gaining only a small lot of land and no building contracts. In 1661 he accepted an offer of a home lot and twenty acres of farmland from the selectmen of Northampton, Massachusetts. Barber Sr. died the following year in Windsor before he could move. Thomas Barber Sr. was married to Jane Coggins (1619-1662); they had six children, including furniture maker Thomas Barber Jr. who married Mary Phelps and moved to Simsbury.
