Francis Alexander

Francis Alexander was born in Killingly, CT on February 3, 1800. He studied briefly with Alexander Robertson in New York City and began his career as an artist in Killingly and Providence, RI. He settled in Boston in 1827 and in the 1830s and 1840s was one of Boston's most successful portrait painters. He was also a genre painter, a still life painter, and a lithographer. In 1853, he went to Europe and settled in Florence, where he remained for the rest of his life, dying on March 27, 1880.
