Ashahel Hatheway Sr.

Ashahel Hatheway, Sr. purchased his home from the State of Connecticut prior to 1811. The state had acquired it from Oliver Phelps (1749-1809) in lieu of back taxes several years earlier. The Phelps-Hatheway House still stands in Suffield, Connecticut. Ashahel Hatheway was a native of Suffield, and was a wealthy land speculator in the Western Reserve. His last remaining descendent was his granddaughter, Louise Hatheway (1824-1910).
