Dr. John Lee Comstock was born in East Lyme, Connecticut, on 25 September 1787. He married Mary Eliza Chenevard (1799-1884) of Hartford on 17 or 19 May 1817. She was the only daughter of Mary Juliana Seymour (died 1843, age 74) and Captain John Chenevard, Jr. (1770-1808). Mrs. Chenevard was the niece of Colonel William Ledyard. The Comstocks had eight children. Dr. Comstock died on 21 November 1858.
