Elijah Tracy

Elijah Tracy was the son of Ebenezer Tracy (1744-1803), the most prominent figure in the Norwich, Connecticut, area in the production of Windsor chairs. Elijah had two brothers, Ebenezer, Jr., and Frederick; all three brothers, like their father, were furniture makers. Both of Elijah Tracy's sisters married furniture makers; Lydia married Amos Denison Allen.

Elijah Tracy's style was similar to his father's. He likely trained with his father to learn the furniture making craft. His exact birth date is unclear, but in the 1790 census, he was twenty-four years old with a wife and two children. Elijah Tracy obtained a letter of dismissal from his church in Newent on 15 October 1801 and relocated with his family to Clinton, in the town of Paris, in Oneida County, New York. He died there at the age of forty. His death was reported in the Norwich Courier on 1 February 1807.
