Frederick Robbins

Frederick Robbins was the son of John Robbins (1716-1798). During the American Revolution, Robbins fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Siege of Boston, the Battle of Long Island, and the Battle of White Plains. At the Battle of Bunker Hill, he served as Orderly Sergeant in Captain Chester's Wethersfield Company. When his term of service expired in 1778, Frederick Robbins returned to his farm. Soon after, he returned to service on the privateer of Captain Jabez Riley of Wethersfield; the privateer was captured by the British, and Robbins was held on the prison ship "Old Jersey" until a prisoner exchange.

After the Revolutionary War, Frederick Robbins returned to Connecticut to farm, and he raised a large family. He married Mehitable Wolcott (d. 1806) on 12 April 1781; they had five children. He married his second wife, Sally Deming (d. 1809), on 9 May 1808; they had one child. He married his third wife, the widow Abigail Grimes Griswold (d. 1879), on 13 January 1811; they had four children. Frederick Robbins served as first selectman for Wethersfield for many years, and he was also a Representative of Wethersfield in the Legislature. He died 1 November 1821; he is buried in Rocky Hill.
