General John Moore Kelso DavisAmerican, 1844 - 1920

John Moore Kelso Davis was born in Washington, D.C. on 31 January 1844. He was the son of Martha Anderson Kelso Davis and Alexander McDonald Davis (about 1809-1872). On 8 June 1870, John M. K. Davis married Fanny Sanger (1848-1917), and they had three children: Fanny Caroline Davis Hero (1871-1932); John Henry Kelso Davis (1875-1956); and Franck Everly Taylor Davis (1887-1898).

John M. K. Davis graduated from West Point in 1867. He received his commission as a second lieutenant on 16 June 1867 and served in the United States Army for over forty years. During the Spanish American War he was a major and served as inspector-general of volunteers. After the war he commanded the troops at Puerto Rico for a time. John M. K. became a brigadier general on 25 May 1907, and he retired from the Army on 31 January 1908. He died in at his son's home in Hartford, Connecticut, on 20 May 1920.
