Henry AustinAmerican, 1804 - 1891

Henry Austin was born in Hamden, Connecticut and by the 1820s, he was working for the architect Ithiel Town In New York. In 1840, he came to Hartford as supervising architect for the construction of the Wadsworth Atheneum, on behalf of Town & Davis. His office in Hartford was located in the Kellogg building, at 136 Main Street. From the 1830s, Austin also had an independent practice in New Haven. The collection of the Connecticut Historical Society includes a few architectural drawings by Austin.
