Laura Wells

Laura Wells was born in Newington, Connecticut on 23 July 1789, the daughter of Absalom Wells and Lorraine Patterson Wells. She married John Churchill on 9 September 1811 and settled on a farm in New Hartford, Connecticut. They had five children including Electra Churchill Seymour. Seven years after her husband's death in 1823, she movied with her family to Bristol, Connecticut. Laura Wells died on 3 July 1877 in Bristol, Connecticut.

Laura (1812-1892) is probably the child represented in the portrait if, as stated in the Churchill genealogy, the mother was aged 23 (c. 1812) when the portrait was painted. The next child was not born until 1814.
