Samuel PeckAmerican, active 1844 - 1857

Samuel Peck began making daguerreotypes in New Haven in 1844 in partnership with Tomlinson and Phineas Pardee, Jr. He took over the studio in his own name in December 1845 and continued as a daguerreotypist until 1850 when he decided to manufacture daguerreotype plate holders and cases instead in partnership with Scovill Manufacturing Co. of Waterbury. Peck began experimenting with plastic cases in 1852 and took out his first patent on October 3, 1854. The partnership between Peck and Scovill was dissolved in 1857. The New Haven factory continued to manufacture thermoplastic cases under Peck's patent using the name Littlefield, Parsons and Co.
