Lieutenant Oliver Pomeroy was born in 1729, the son of Captain John and Rachel Sheldon Pomeroy of Northampton, Massachusetts. In 1750 in Wethersfield, Connecticut, he married Mary Lyman (1729-1776), also of Northampton, Massachusetts. He became a prosperous merchant, owning and operating a wharf on the Connecticut River. He died in 1776.
