Louis F. ArensbergAmerican, 1842 - 1934

Louis F. Arensberg was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1842. He enlisted to serve in the Civil War on August 11, 1862 in the Hampton Battery and was discharged May 17, 1865. After the war he studied medicine at the University of Michigan and practiced in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania until his health failed. He was President of the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, Pennsylvania for many years and was elected a member of the State Legislature for two terms. He was Commander of the GAR Post #180 in Uniontown for many years, elected the Pennsylvania Department Commander in 1916 and the National Commander-in-Chief in 1924. He was Treasurer of the Grand Army permanent fund at the time of his death. He passed away at his home in Arensburg Ferry, Pennsylvania on September 30, 1934.
