Claude Joseph Sauthier

BiographyClaude Joseph Sauthier was born in Strasbourg, France in 1736. He was a landscape gardener, surveyor, and topographer. In 1767, he came to American where he worked as a surveyor for Governor William Tryon in North Carolina and later in New York. He served as a military draughtsman during the American Revolution. After spending most of his life in the service of the British, he returned to France, where he died in 1802.
