Loren Pinckney Waldo Sr.

BiographyLoren Pinckney Waldo Sr. was born in Canterbury, Connecticut on 2 February 1802, son of Ebenezer Waldo (1771-1840) and Cynthia (Parish) Waldo. He was a Representative from Connecticut and moved to Tolland, Connecticut in 1823. He was married to Frances Elizabeth Eldridge November of 1825 and have four children together: Ebenezer Elderkin (1827-1833),Francis Elizebeth Waldo (1831-1908), Loren Pinckney Waldo Jr.(1834-1865), Cynthia Paulina Waldo (1836-1908). Waldo studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1825 and moved to Somers, Connecticut as superintendent of schools and postmaster in 1829 and 1830. In1830 he returned to Tolland, Connecticut and became a member of the State house of representatives in 1832-1834 and in 1839; clerk of the State house of representatives in 1833; State’s attorney 1837-1849; judge of probate for Tolland district in 1842 and 1843; member in 1847 of the committee to revise the statutes; a member of the State house of representatives in 1847 and 1848; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first Congress (1849-1851); chairman, Committee on Revolutionary Pensions (Thirty-first Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1850 to the Thirty-second Congress; commissioner of the school fund of Connecticut; Commissioner of Pensions under President Pierce from 17 March 1853, until 10 January 1856. Loren Pinckney Waldo Sr. became a judge of the superior court of Connecticut 1856-1863 and moved to Hartford, Connecticut. He died on 8 September 1881 in Hartford Connecticut and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
