U.S. Rubber Co. was the patent-holder and manufacturer of Top-Sider shoes, developed between 1935-1937 by Paul Sperry (b. 1895). U.S. Rubber Co. produced Top-Siders, as well as Keds, at its Naugatuck, Connecticut, plant until 1979, when both brands were purchased by the Stride Rite Corporation, based in Massachusetts.
