Eleanor Clara Neumann

American, 1898 - 1992
BiographyEleanor (Laura) Clara Neumann was born 21 January 1898 in Rockville, Connecticut. She was the third daughter of Ernest and Lina Serbser Neumann. Her parents wanted to name her Laura, but the German Lutheran minister who baptised her said that was "no name" and they had to chose another. Eleanor was always known to her family and friends as Laura. She lived at 8 Prospect Street until her marriage, when she moved to West Hartford.

Laura married Karl Frederick Zwiebelhofer (1894-1985), the son of German immigrants, Matilda and Frederick Zweibelhofer, on 16 April 1929. They had three children: twins Howard Carl and Jane Eleanor (b. 1930) and Herbert Frederick (b. 1933). The family were members of St. James Episcopal Church on North Main Street, West Hartford. Laura was active in the Woman's Guild, serving on many committees and as President. Laura Clara Neumann Hofer died in 1992.
