BiographyIndividual state-appointed commissioners monitored Connecticut's turnpikes, canals, and railroads until 1854 when the State established the Board of Railroad Commissioners. The Railroad Commissioners also assumed jurisdiction for electric street railroads when these came into existence. In 1911, the Board of Railroad Commissioners was succeeded by the Public Utilities Commission.
