BiographyThe Federal Works Agency was created in 1939 to oversee public road construction, building maintenance, and public works relief functions. It combined several existing organizations including the Bureau of Public Roads, the United States Housing Authority, and the Works Progress Administration. The Federal Works Agency was responsible for the construction of a great deal of defense housing during World War II.
