Fielding Lucas Jr.

BiographyFielding Lucas, Jr. was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on 3 September 1781. In 1798, he went to Philadelphia, where he appears to have worked in bookstores and publishing houses. In 1804, he moved to Baltimore where he became involved in publishing books and atlases. In 1811, he established his own business on Market Street. During the war of 1812, he served briefly in the army. Following the war, he concentrated on producing maps and atlases, both as a draftsman and publisher. Maps bearing his imprint appeared as late as 1852. He died in Baltimore on 12 March 1854.
