Frances Manwaring Caulkins

BiographyFrances Manwaring Caulkins was born in New London, Connecticut on 26 April 1795. Following the death of her father, her mother remarried and moved to Norwich, where Caulkins spent most of her childhood. One of her teachers was the future Lydia Huntley Signourney. Caulkins herself taught school for a time in Norwich. She was a prolific author and wrote many religious tracts and also histories of the towns of Norwich and New London. She died on 3 February 1869.
