BiographyJohn H. Bufford learned the lithography trade from William S. Pendleton in Boston. In New York, he apparently did some work in his own name before going to work for Endicott and Nathaniel Currier. He was in New York from 1835 to 1840 and then returned to Boston, where he established his own business, J. H. Bufford & Co., one of the major lithographic firms of the mid-nineteenth century.
