Robert M. Gates

BiographyRobert M. Gates was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1918. He attended Madison High School and the University of Wisconsin. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and returned to Madison after the war to earn his Ph.D. in geology at the University. He taught geology and mapping and made an extensive study of the geology of western Connecticut and eastern New York State. He died in Madison in 2004.
