National Geographic Society (U. S.)

The National Geographic Society is one of the largest non-profit scientific and educational institutions in the world. Founded in 1888, its mission is to "increase and diffuse geographic knowledge while promoting the conservation of the world's cultural, historical, and natural resources." It sponsors scientific research and exploration and publishes a journal, National Geographic Magazine.
