Polly Ludington

American, born 1799
BiographyA woman named Polly Ludington was born in Bethlehem, Connecticut on August 21, 1799. In January 1818, she married Colonel Seymour Knapp, also of Bethlehem. Colonel Knapp had previously been married to Betsey Ludington, possibly Polly's sister. Betsey died in September 1817 at the age of twenty-four. Seymour Knapp was still living in Bethlehem with his family--including numerous children and presumably including his wife Polly--in 1830. There is no firm evidence that this Polly Ludington drew the map of Connecticut belonging to the Connecticut Historical Society, but the name is not common and the dates seem appropriate.
