Sherman Wolcott AdamsAmerican, 1836 - 1898
Sherman Wolcott Adams was born on 5 May 1836, the son of Welles and Mary Griswold Adams. He lived in Hartford, Connecticut, and became a member of the Connecticut Historical Society on 2 November 1875. He died on 19 October 1898 and is buried in Wethersfield Village Cemetary. Adams served in the United States army during the Civil War and following the war resumed his practice as a lawyer--and later judge--in Hartford. He was also active in state government. An enthusiastic amateur historian, he was the author of numerous papers. Henry R. Stiles's History of Ancient Wethersfield is largely based on Adams's manuscript.
