BiographyE.M. Woodford was born in Avon, Connecticut on 15 April 1824. He was a self-taught civil engineer and surveyor who produced several maps between 1851 and 1855. His name appears as surveyor on at least nine maps of Connecticut towns as well as maps of towns in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Although most of these maps were published by Richard Clark in Philadelphia, Woodford himself published at least twelve maps. Woodford enlisted in the Seventh Connecticut Volunteer Infantry and died of congestive fever at Hilton Head, South Carolina in October 1862.
