John MelishScottish, 1771 - 1822
John Melish, was born in Scotland in 1771. He visited the United States several times before settling in Philadelphia in 1811. In 1812, he published Travels in the United States of America, which included his first maps and marked the beginning of his career as a cartographer and publisher.
