George Francis

BiographyGeorge Francis was born on 25 January 1790 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was a life-long resident of Harford. Francis studied under artists Benjamin West and Washington Allston, but was forced to give up painting for the family business of carriage-making. He married Martha Wadsworth (d.1872) on 29 November 1819. They had at least six children: George Wadsworth (b. 1820); Martha Emiline (1822-1877); William (b. 1824); Harriet (b. 1826); Charles Edward (b. 1828); and Frederick Augustus (b. 1830). George died on 7 March 1873.
